The “Butcher of Bucha” from my investigation was apparently targeted in an explosion in Khabarovsk Krai. It is unknown whether he is alive

An attempt on Guards Major General Azatbek Omurbekov's life took place last night. He commanded the 64th Motor Rifle Brigade of the Russian army during the occupation of Bucha and Andriivka in Ukraine. They tried to blow him up right in the military garrison in the village of Knyaze-Volkonskoye-1: the bomb had been planted in a mailbox on the stairwell landing of one of the buildings.

As a result of the attempt, Lieutenant Colonel Kuzmenko was killed, several people were wounded, and there is still no information about Omurbekov's condition.

Who is Omurbekov? A Guards major general, Hero of Russia, he commanded Russian troops during the fighting for Bucha.

I first learned about him from a conversation with Russian serviceman Daniil Frolkin, who took part in the occupation of Kyiv region and confessed to killing a Ukrainian civilian:

According to him, Colonel Azatbek Omurbekov passed false information to the command about the brigade's nonexistent successes. Throughout the occupation of Andriivka, according to the serviceman, the commander “sat it out in the school basement,” where the headquarters was located.

We tried to explain to that command that we would not go on the offensive anymore, Frolkin recalls. — After that, Omurbekov started beating the guys, saying they were weaklings, just showering them with obscenities. He hit one in the face with the butt of his rifle, put a pistol to another's forehead, and said: “I'll just shoot you right now, and absolutely nothing will happen to me for it.”

After that interview, other subordinates of Omurbekov got in touch with me. They said that he gave orders to kill anyone found with phones and to shoot civilian cars. This was confirmed by others as well, for example deserter Nikita Chibrin.

Omurbekov was generously rewarded for his “services”: he was given the title Hero of Russia, invited to Victory Day parades, and he even led a column of equipment from the time of the Great Patriotic War.

Since 2023, he has headed the 392nd District Training Center for Junior Specialists of the Eastern Military District, and traveled to China to exchange experience. He has a 16-year-old son who belongs to Yunarmiya (they visit the training center headed by his father on excursions, where they learn to fire a tank and operate drones). I managed to find one of the latest photos of Omurbekov: in it he is with his wife Yekaterina. She is living her best socialite life; I found her in photos from the “Woman of the Year-2025” contest in Khabarovsk. A funny fact: in 2015 her VK status was “Make love, not war!”.

This commander sat it out in a basement during the occupation, threw his soldiers into the hottest hell, beat and humiliated them himself. He lied to the command, deliberately embellishing his achievements. He built his career on lies and violence. Information about the attempt on his life was immediately classified. Local media wrote, based on rumors, that Omurbekov “miraculously survived.” I think we will soon find out whether that is true.
