The governor of Belgorod Region said that he is going on vacation for two weeks — amid rumors of his imminent resignation (and daily Ukrainian Armed Forces drone strikes on the region)

Gladkov wrote on his Telegram channel that he will be absent for two weeks. He promised that “operational information about current events” would continue to appear on his social media pages, where he regularly publishes missile threat alerts and reports on the consequences of Ukrainian Armed Forces shelling.

In early April, Vedomosti wrote that Gladkov could be dismissed. One of the outlet’s sources noted that the situation with support for the authorities against the backdrop of the war was “not the best,” and that it was “logical to carry out a rotation.”

At the same time, according to a Meduza source, Gladkov’s ratings in the region are “still high, although they have dipped.”

According to the local outlet Pepel and Novaya Gazeta Europe, Gladkov’s successor could be Irkutsk Region deputy governor Major General Alexander Shuvayev, who previously took part in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Vedomosti wrote that Gladkov himself could become deputy minister of economic development of the Russian Federation.
