Why are oil depots and military factories burning in Russia’s regions?

The fifth year of “demilitarization” is already underway, and Ukrainian drones are destroying targets deep in Russia’s rear every day. In Tuapse, the oil refinery attacked three times is still burning out, and every strike was successful. Yesterday, drones reached Perm and hit their targets. Faraway St. Petersburg? Not a problem: hundreds of drones have repeatedly flown across half of Russia, setting Russian oil terminals on fire in Primorsk and Ust-Luga.

But where is Russia’s air defense? Where are all those unmatched S-400 “Triumf” systems, where did the unique and mobile “Pantsir” systems go, where are the latest “Buk-M3”s? Yes, of course, many of them have already been taken out by those same Ukrainian drones. In March 2026 alone, drones from the Unmanned Systems Forces destroyed 41 Russian air defense units. That is a huge number, because SAM launchers and their radars are one-off products that cost millions of dollars and take months, if not years, to manufacture. Suffice it to say that as of 2024, the Russian Armed Forces had about 80 Pantsir-S1 systems in service.

That is why it is becoming harder and harder to shield Russia’s vast skies from the growing number of Ukrainian drones and missiles. But it is not only Ukrainian drones that are helping create ever larger holes in the skies over Russia, left uncovered by air defense. The biggest blow to Russia’s air defense system was dealt by... the Kremlin itself.

Belgorod, Tuapse, Novorossiysk, or especially Donetsk and Crimea are protected by air defense on a leftover basis, because Putin never goes there. The Russian Defense Ministry’s first priority is to close the skies over Putin’s residence in Valdai, as well as over Moscow.

In the deep wilderness of the Novgorod forests, on the shore of Lake Valdai, there is the “Long Beards” residence. This is a luxurious compound, a favorite place for Vladimir Putin to live and отдыхать. Apparently the bunker at the residence is not enough for him, so a huge number of air defense systems have been dragged there. Satellite imagery alone made it possible to find 27 Pantsir-S installations around the residence itself. 27 systems to protect a dacha! Around Moscow, they also built a triple ring of air defense, pulling in everything left after Valdai.

It is clear that nothing is left for Tuapse and Belgorod. This is how the tsar lives and rules. Putin unleashed the war and is ready for it to continue. His children and grandchildren will not die in meat assaults, a rain of oil will not fall on his residence, his rest at his dachas is not darkened by alarm. And ordinary Russians will reap the storm sown by their ruler, who has washed his hands of his criminal decisions.

Air Defense Reserved for the Dacha

Air defenses went to Valdai and Moscow while depots and plants kept burning.

The country is covered where the boss rests.
