Criminal case opened against former Navalny headquarters staffer in Ufa under the “foreign agents” article
A criminal case has been opened against a former Navalny headquarters staffer in Ufa under the “foreign agents” article
The Investigative Committee opened a case for evading the duties of a “foreign agent” (Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code) against lawyer Fyodor Telin. He himself told OVD-Info about it.
The case was opened back in February. The lawyer only learned about it in April, after his relatives were summoned for questioning by the Investigative Committee.
“For many years now, my work has been aimed at the benefit of Russian citizens, not at serving foreign states. The very fact that a case has been opened under the foreign agent article is insulting to me,” the human rights defender commented on his prosecution.
Telin’s interests are represented by OVD-Info lawyer Maksim Kuznetsov.
🟠 The human rights defender was added to the “foreign agents” register in November 2022. Since then, he has been fined six times in administrative cases for violating “foreign agent” legislation: three times for the absence of the label on posts and three times for failing to submit reports to the Justice Ministry.
🟠 Telin left Russia in 2021, shortly after the decision banning the FBK and Navalny headquarters came into force. After he had already left, security forces came to search him.
🟠 Before Navalny’s projects were declared extremist, the lawyer worked for several years at the Ufa headquarters. He was brought to responsibility three times under the protest-rally article because of participation in protests or posts about them.
