Son of a State Duma deputy who backed internet restrictions moved his business to the UAE for the sake of “freedom of information”

Dmitry Gartung, the son of State Duma deputy and one of the founders of A Just Russia, Valery Gartung, moved his business to the UAE thanks to “minimal bureaucracy, freedom of information distribution, and state support for technological development.” He spoke about this in articles for local trade media, as noted by Vyorstka.

Dmitry Gartung spoke about his move to the UAE in his own article, “When Crisis Comes Home: How to Build a Resilient Startup,” for the Middle Eastern analytical portal ESG Mena. In the text, the businessman describes how he experienced the Israel and U.S. war with Iran in “his home” in Abu Dhabi.

The younger Gartung says he chose the UAE as the base for his company OneSun because of its “fast bureaucracy,” “digital maturity,” and the ability to run a business from anywhere “with the help of a phone”.

His father, Valery Gartung, actively supported internet restrictions in Russia. During discussion in the State Duma of a bill granting the FSB the power to temporarily shut down any communications, he said that “we are in a state of war, and we need to defend the country.”

“So that our own means of communication do not become targeting tools for the enemy, this bill is needed. Better without the internet than without heat and electricity,” Gartung said.
