The Emergency Situations Ministry prepared a bill on mobilizing reservists to fight fires after Ukrainian Armed Forces attacks

Reservists may be mobilized into the fire service to extinguish fires after Ukrainian Armed Forces attacks, according to a new Emergency Situations Ministry bill noticed by Verstka.

“During a period of mobilization, service in the federal fire service by citizens who are in the reserve of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and who are assigned to serve in accordance with federal laws and regulatory legal acts of the President of the Russian Federation is an obligation of such citizens,” the bill says.

The explanatory note to the document says that “cases of personnel from Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry being deployed to extinguish fires arising as a result of armed aggression against the Russian Federation have become more frequent,” while these units are understaffed.

In the same place, the authors of the bill claim that it concerns only citizens who have previously served in the federal fire service and have “professional experience, skills, and qualifications.”

But human rights defenders who spoke with Verstka believe that under the new bill, people without experience could also be brought in.
