In Penza Region, apparently, a rehearsal is underway for the coming forced mobilization in the Russian Federation: security forces have staged mass roundups of men. Checkpoints have appeared in Penza, Kamenka, and Kuznetsk; soldiers and police are driving around the streets and lying in wait near booze shops. They are grabbing men indiscriminately, beating them, dragging them onto buses, and taking them to military enlistment offices, where they are forced to sign a contract.

Later, the authorities issued an official statement, calling the busification that took place a “raid to identify citizens who had not registered for military service.” Supposedly, 80 people were “checked,” nine of whom were given draft notices, but according to eyewitnesses, the security forces were not especially interested in checking documents, and there were far more abducted men. As the “Get Lost!” project reports, some of those abducted were handed a contract with the Ministry of Defense disguised as a detention report, with the line, “sign it and we’ll let you go.”

Ukrainian troops “knock out” about 40,000 Russian servicemen every month, long outpacing the badly stalled rate of contract recruitment for the “SMO.” To somehow meet the already sagging targets for feeding “fresh meat” into the repressive mobilization machine, sooner or later it will have to resort to total lawlessness. Russians have already been shown what that will look like.
