Relatives have confirmed the death of a Russian officer resulting from an assassination attempt on Major General Omurbekov, known as the "Butcher of Bucha"

This was reported to Mediazona by the aunt and sister of 36-year-old Defense Ministry officer Alexey Kuzmenko.

They confirmed that he was killed in the entrance of an apartment building in the village of Knyaze-Volkonskoye in Khabarovsk Krai, but said they do not know any other details.

"The investigators are not giving any exact information, and they have not told us any details. We learn everything only from the news, everything that is written in the news is also all that his wife knows," Kuzmenko's sister said.

The VChK-OGPU channel reported on the assassination attempt on Major General Azatbek Omurbekov, who commanded Russian troops in Bucha in Kyiv Oblast. According to its information, in the explosion on April 28, "battalion commander of training communications Lieutenant Colonel Kuzmenko" was killed. The bomb had been planted in a mailbox on the landing of building No. 55.

Omurbekov commanded the 64th Motor Rifle Brigade, which Ukraine accuses of mass killings in Bucha, Hostomel, and Irpin. He is known as the "Butcher of Bucha" and is included on the sanctions lists of the European Union and the United States.

Kuzmenko, who was awarded the Zhukov Medal "for courage, bravery, and selflessness shown in the performance of military duty," is survived by three children. According to his sister, he was not a participant in the war with Ukraine.
