Schoolchildren will be required to study the “DNA of Russia”

A new subject, "Spiritual and Moral Culture of Russia," will be introduced for fifth- through seventh-grade students starting in the next school year, the Ministry of Education reported.

It will be taught from the second half of the 2026/27 school year in fifth grade (the course is 17 hours), and from the 2027/28 school year in sixth and seventh grades (34 hours each). The subject was developed on the instructions of Vladimir Putin. It is aimed at "forming in children and teenagers a worldview based on traditional values," the ministry noted.

"The DNKR subject is extremely important, since all educational organizations have approved an educational work program, and it itself is based on the study of traditional moral values, relying on a pantheon of heroes approved at the federal level. Its essence lies in introducing schoolchildren to the lives and work of outstanding state and public figures in our national history who played a significant role in the development of our country. The subject must be genuinely interesting for students, and that requires an informal approach," Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov said.
