Another African Country Has Confirmed Its Citizens’ Participation in the War Against Ukraine...

Another African country has confirmed that its citizens took part in the war against Ukraine.

Cameroon’s Foreign Ministry, in a diplomatic note to the Russian Embassy, reported the deaths of 16 of its citizens who had fought on Russia’s side, Reuters writes. This is the first public acknowledgment that Cameroonians have been recruited by Russians.

At the same time, the ministry did not publicly explain exactly how these 16 people ended up in the war or under what circumstances they died. Relatives of the dead, meanwhile, were urged to contact the Foreign Ministry to clarify the information.

For Russians, Cameroonians, like all other Africans and foreign citizens in general, are cheap expendable material. Recruiting them costs less than recruiting any Russian citizen: for a couple of thousand dollars they are ready to travel halfway across the world and do any work. They are easier to deceive, and no one will be held responsible for their deaths.

Earlier, we published the data of almost 200 Cameroonian citizens who signed contracts with the Russian army in 2023-2025. In total, at the moment we have the names of 383 Cameroonians in the Russian army, at least 93 of whom have died. It is obvious that these are far from all the representatives of this African country who ended up in a war foreign to them, thousands of kilometers from home.

In total, we know the names of almost 2,500 Africans who signed contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense. At the same time, the deaths of more than 300 of them are reliably known. Earlier, we published lists of hundreds of mercenaries from various African countries, among them also citizens of Cameroon. You can view them under the hashtag #Russian\Armed\Forces\mercenaries.

Ukraine consistently calls on the governments of all countries whose citizens Russia recruits to take part in the war, as well as on the entire international community, to make every effort to stop this criminal practice. The practice of putting pressure on Moscow is already bearing fruit: at a minimum, the authorities of India, South Africa and Kenya have managed to stop the recruitment of their citizens into the ranks of the occupying army.
