The war through the eyes of Meduza readers. Today we publish a letter from Vladimir in Yekaterinburg

On Saturday morning [April 24], my family was jolted awake by a powerful explosion, the house shook. I did my best to calm my pregnant wife, and we went out onto the balcony — a plume of smoke was rising from the building across from us. No one had any question about “what happened.”

Somewhere deep down, I had been reassuring myself that Yekaterinburg is far away, that the war would never reach us, and that in the morning I would not have to explain to my son what that loud bang was. Well, in the fifth year of the conflict, this Rubicon has now been crossed too.

Unfortunately, what has happened now will not make things better for anyone — those gloating in Ukraine will continue to be bombed, the Z-patriots will only intensify their hatred of the enemy, and opponents of the war will grow even more exhausted by it.
