The Kremlin is discussing how to reduce the popularity of the New People party, which has grown amid internet restrictions

“New People,” which was originally an experiment by the presidential administration to create a party, has already secured second place in VTsIOM’s main official party rating, published weekly. Now the Kremlin is thinking about how to reduce that popularity, Verstka’s sources said.

The growth in the rating appears to have frightened both the party itself and its Kremlin handlers.

“They [NL] have one hidden danger: excessive activity. With their creative stunts, they create this effect: ‘There it is, the alternative!’ And that is no longer liked either at the top of our pyramid or at its base. In second place, under normal development of the situation in the country, nobody sees them,” says the head of one of the structures that shapes public opinion on the Kremlin’s instructions.

His colleague from the central executive committee of United Russia notes that “right now the only thing we were missing was growth in New People’s rating.”

“It’s obvious that people are complaining about blockings and housing and utilities. But everyone understands what they are really complaining about. They don’t understand? Well, then I’m not going to spell it out,” he told a Verstka journalist.

A source close to the presidential administration claims that New People’s election штаб has been tasked with adjusting its strategy so that the constitutional majority remains with United Russia, and New People returns “to its electoral niche: the educated middle class, young people, entrepreneurs.”
