Penza police threatened liability for reports about “numerous detentions of men by police officers for sending to the special military operation zone”

Over the past few days, false information has been spreading online about allegedly numerous detentions of men by police officers for sending to the special military operation zone. These video publications have nothing to do with sending anyone to the special military operation zone,

the Penza Region Interior Ministry said.

Police threatened to hold people liable for spreading this information. The Interior Ministry also added that police officers act in accordance with Russian laws.

🔹On June 17, a Penza resident published a video in which women near a military enlistment office try to wrest men sitting in a bus away from security forces. On June 19, the clip spread in the media; the next day police said they were looking for draft evaders who had received Russian citizenship and that officers were acting within the law.

Mediazona found out that one of the men detained during the raid was forced to sign a contract and was sent to occupied Mariupol. Human-rights defenders told Agentstvo that this may be a new practice of recruiting vulnerable groups, in particular men who had problems with the law.
