Parents of Chechen activist Mansur Movlayev were returned home after being abducted, the activist’s lawyers said

This was reported by the project “Slovo zashchite,” citing human-rights defender Maksim Rudnev, who is handling Movlayev’s case. According to Rudnev, the information was passed to him by the activist’s lawyers.

Earlier, Movlayev’s support group on Instagram reported that the parents of Chechen activist Mansur Movlayev may have been abducted. Before that, it was reported that Movlayev’s brother had also been abducted and “subjected to brutal violence.”

🔹Mansur Movlayev is an engineer and master of sports in taekwondo who was convicted in Russia in 2020 in a drug case. He himself linked the persecution to his criticism of Chechen authorities.

In 2022, the activist was released on parole, but in August of that year he was abducted by officers of the Chechen Interior Ministry and sent to an “illegal prison,” where he was tortured.

In 2023, he managed to flee to Kyrgyzstan, after which Movlayev was put on the federal wanted list for financing extremism (according to 1ADAT, the money transfer imputed to him was made by the security forces themselves).

🔵Movlayev is now in Kazakhstan. In late February, a local court denied him asylum, and he is currently in a pretrial detention center — in May, an investigative court in Almaty, Kazakhstan, extended Movlayev’s extradition arrest for another two months.
