Cockroaches in food and threats. Artist Lyudmila Razumova spoke about an aggressive cellmate

The artist, who was convicted over anti-war graffiti and posts, said that her cellmate threatened her with violence and planted cockroaches in her personal belongings and food. She believes the woman is trying to provoke a conflict and trigger aggression in response.

Razumova has repeatedly asked the administration of Tver SIZO-1 to transfer her to a safe place. Her lawyer also asked the deputy head of the detention center to do this.

The artist also reported high blood pressure and hypertensive crises. The medications prescribed to her do not bring relief. She fears she may be in a pre-stroke condition.

At the same time, reports that Razumova had scurvy, which had previously appeared in the media, were not confirmed. But she was diagnosed with vitamin deficiency.

Lyudmila Razumova’s Case

In 2023, the artist and her former husband Alexander Martynov were convicted under articles on spreading “fake news” about the Russian army and vandalism. Razumova was sentenced to 7 years in a general-regime penal colony, and Martynov to 6.5 years.

The former spouses were accused of leaving anti-war graffiti in villages in Tver Region, and of publishing videos about the invasion of Ukraine on their Odnoklassniki pages, in which the actions of Russian soldiers were criticized and shelling of residential buildings and civilians was reported.

Last year, a new case was opened against Razumova, over causing minor harm to health. Before that, another convict attacked her in a prison hospital. During a domestic conflict, Razumova poured water on her, and in response the woman began beating her and strangling her with the cord of a water boiler. The case was opened not against the attacker, but against the artist.
