Downdetector recorded a brief decrease in the level of Telegram blocking in Russia

Downdetector recorded a brief decrease in the level of Telegram blocking in Russia. But now the messenger is again unavailable without a VPN

The reasons why Telegram unexpectedly started working for users for several hours were not reported. Experts surveyed by the industry publication Kod Durova suggested that the combination of factors so far points to likely changes in the app itself, rather than to a weakening of Telegram’s blocking. In the latest versions of the app, including beta builds, Kod Durova writes, all functions have been working correctly without a proxy or VPN since late in the evening on April 16.

The last official Telegram update for Android came out in early April. Among other things, it fixed a bug that had allowed TSPU systems to identify the messenger’s traffic more easily. The latest version of the app that Kod Durova writes about is in beta status. It is still impossible to say which specific features available in it will make it into the final release.
