A Russian officer speaks honestly about what the modern Russian army has become.

57-year-old Oleg Miller served back in the 1990s. In 2024, the devil pulled him into going to the military enlistment office and signing a contract, which he now regrets. Returning after almost 30 years, he was shocked by how much the army had degraded.

Oleg ended up in the medical battalion of the 27th Guards Motor Rifle Division. For some time he served as acting head of a hospital in the occupied territory of Luhansk region. Many new recruits and “old hands” passed through him, and the captain’s assessment of them is anything but flattering:

“Rabble… Alcoholics, drug addicts, criminals… People deprived of intelligence, and you can see from them that the guys abuse alcohol. The normal ones probably ran out in 2023-2024. In 2023, we were getting the best of the worst. And now it’s no longer even the worst of the worst coming in, but whoever is left from among the worst”

According to Miller, the overwhelming majority are in the Russian army because of money. Only a few fight for an idea. Because of this, the thirst for profit outweighs everything else. For example, the command starts “stripping” newly contracted soldiers as soon as they get into the army: contract-signing payments “drop” into the account, so hand over a share. If you do not want to, it is “nullification.”

In the thoroughly rotten Russian army, people try to make a business out of everything: not being sent on an assault, wound certificates, being sent to the rear for treatment, drug and alcohol dealing, and so on. It is telling that at some point people who go to the “SVO” to make money are ready to give any amount of money just to break out of this hell.
