Support journalist and human rights defender Dmitry Gromov! He is not receiving letters

Dmitry Gromov is a journalist from Chelyabinsk Region. Before his arrest, he wrote about law enforcement abuses, investigated drug trafficking, and worked on human rights issues. For example, he helped a prisoner who reported torture in one of Chelyabinsk’s colonies.

In July 2020, Gromov was detained by drug control officers. At the time, he was investigating the department’s possible connection to online drug shops. The journalist himself was accused of attempted drug sales. In March 2025, he was sentenced to 17.5 years in a strict-regime colony.

Recently, Dmitry sent us a letter through his lawyer. He said that after being transferred he had effectively disappeared from contact — letters were not reaching him — and asked for publicity.

Because of a court decision designating OVD-Info “extremist,” we suspended sending letters through “Vestochka.” But you can write the journalist a paper letter: if there are many letters, there is a greater chance the colony administration will react to them — at the very least, staff will know that the political prisoner is remembered. The letter should be sent to this address:
