EU countries have been allowed to sell oil seized from tankers of Russia’s “shadow fleet”
The European Union, as part of its 21st package of sanctions against Russia, has allowed the alliance’s member states to sell Russian oil and petroleum products that they seized from tankers of Russia’s “shadow fleet.”
According to one European official in Brussels, the seizure of petroleum products from detained tankers happens often, but “the question was what to do with the cargo,” which is “very valuable.”
The new EU rules also allow grain transported by such tankers to be put up for sale.
