“All this must be stopped”: Tokayev proposes “freezing” the war in Ukraine at a meeting with Putin

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said this at a meeting with Vladimir Putin in Omsk, where the president of Kazakhstan arrived to take part in the 22nd Forum of Interregional Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia.

“All this must be stopped. Because what is happening, in my firm view, plays into the hands of and brings joy to the opponents. Of both Russia and the Ukrainian state,” he said.

Tokayev stressed that he has been “receiving many signals from Europe and the U.S. regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.”

“We have always treated the Ukrainian people with respect. The nature of this conflict is not entirely clear to many, including us. I know that you showed maximum diplomatic flexibility in Alaska. That is my humble opinion. Maybe it is already time to freeze the conflict and return to the Istanbul agreements 2.0. Of course, under guarantees from great powers such as the United States. I categorically refuse to be a mediator,” he added.
