The flow of recruits into the Russian army has collapsed across the country


There are fewer and fewer Russians signing contracts with the Defense Ministry and going to the “special military operation.” This is shown by data obtained by Verstka. For example, in Moscow in spring 2026, the flow of new recruits collapsed by a third compared with the same period in 2025.


🟪 In April, the capital sent 1,708 contract soldiers to the front; in May, 1,378. That is a thousand people fewer than last year, and comparable to 2024 levels — when million-ruble payments for signing a contract with the Defense Ministry had not yet been introduced in the capital.


“Everything is steadily fucked here; few people are coming, and even fewer are motivated. But we are not losing heart, because as far as I understand, our situation is not the worst by national standards. So we keep working,” says a source in Moscow City Hall.


🟪 The situation in the capital is even worse with the flow of contract soldiers into “Rubicon” — a UAV unit where contracts are signed without subsequent extension. When recruitment had just been announced, there was a very large flow, but almost everyone was rejected because of high requirements. Verstka’s sources could not provide exact figures. But according to them, those who have signed contracts with “Rubicon” now amount to roughly one third of the entire flow.


🟪 The situation in Moscow reflects the picture across the country. A Verstka source in one of the units in Siberia said that there are fewer and fewer people willing to sign a contract, and new recruits have to be sought in other regions — including Dagestan.
