Yabloko deputy chair Maxim Kruglov was sentenced to seven years in a “fake news” case

Moscow’s Zamoskvoretsky District Court sentenced Kruglov to seven years in a general-regime penal colony, Mediazona reports from the courtroom.

The prosecution had requested eight years in prison.

Maxim Kruglov headed Yabloko’s faction in the Moscow City Duma from 2019 to 2024. He has served as deputy chair of the Yabloko party since December 2023.

He was detained on October 1, 2025. The case was prompted by two Telegram posts: one was about Bucha, and the other, citing UN data, discussed Ukrainian civilians killed during the war.
