❗️At least 485 citizens of African countries have died serving in the Russian army in the war against Ukraine.

Let us state right away that this is the minimum number of losses according to the personal data of foreign mercenaries of the Russian Armed Forces that we have. The real number of dead and missing is significantly higher. In total, we know the personal data of 2,984 Africans from 40 countries of the continent who signed contracts with the Russian Armed Forces, of whom almost every sixth has died.

The largest number of known losses is among citizens of Cameroon, Ghana, Egypt, and Kenya, which also corresponds to the scale of recruitment in these countries in previous years.

Africans in the Russian army are soldiers of the lowest rank, toward whom the attitude is purely exploitative. Africans who do not speak Russian, which significantly limits their effectiveness on the battlefield, are often used in meat assaults, where the chances of survival are minimal. Their deaths create no problems for the Russian state and cause no public tension. Usually they are recorded as missing and no attempt is made to evacuate their bodies from the battlefield. Those who are nevertheless managed to be removed are either cremated or buried on Russian territory — as a rule, no particular effort is made to find relatives and transfer the bodies home.

As a result, residents of African countries whose loved ones have gone missing in Russia regularly contact the “I Want to Find” project. In addition, in various African countries, relatives of the missing and dead regularly hold actions and rallies, demanding that the authorities assist in returning their loved ones.

And this works. According to our data, because of public resonance and diplomatic pressure on Russia, the Russian Defense Ministry has stopped or significantly reduced recruitment in 14 countries of the African continent.

It is important that relatives of the dead demand from the Russian authorities not only the search for the missing and repatriation of bodies for burial at home, but also the payment of due compensation. The Russian Defense Ministry constantly deceives foreign citizens and does not pay the stipulated payments to the families of the dead.

☝️And the best way to avoid such consequences is not to go to Russia and not to become a mercenary. Even if you are a footballer and are offered a contract with a Russian club, you may end up in a “meat” assault.
