Merz called on Moscow to stop at the front line and start negotiations with Kyiv

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Ukraine holds “a position of strength on the battlefield.” He called on Russia to freeze the front line and return to negotiations with Kyiv.

“Russia will not win this war. European support for Kyiv is unwavering,” Merz said at the Ukraine Recovery Conference taking place in Gdańsk.

The chancellor noted that after the Group of Seven summit, unity between European countries and the United States on the issue of Ukraine remains intact.

“And today we are sending a clear message to Russia: it is time to enter negotiations, freeze the front line, and stop the killing,” Merz added.
