The Investigative Committee proposed making confiscation a separate form of punishment

Alexander Fedorov, adviser to the chairman of the Investigative Committee, said that when an official used public powers to enrich himself illegally, “society has the right to expect not only imprisonment, but also the full seizure of all property acquired by him.”

In this connection, the Investigative Committee proposed that assets obtained by criminal means continue to be searched for even after the investigation of the main criminal case is completed.

In addition, the Investigative Committee advocated introducing urgent seizure of property that actually belongs to the accused but is registered to third parties in order to hide it from recovery.

The Investigative Committee has been advocating for more than 10 years that confiscation be made a separate form of punishment. Its chairman Alexander Bastrykin spoke about this back in 2014.
