Political Prisoners and Political Repression in 2025
Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine has passed the four-year mark. Throughout this time, it has defined the nature and dynamics of most political repression in the country. According to the Conflict Intelligence Team, 2025 became the deadliest year for civilians on both sides of the front.
Discussions on social media about Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory and on Ukrainian territories controlled by the Russian army regularly become grounds for criminal cases on justifying terrorism, while accusations of passing data to Ukrainian intelligence and of arson against infrastructure can be called a routine form of persecution.
