Fuel problems have spread to 78 regions of the country, and in 29 of them the authorities have introduced official restrictions

Problems with gasoline or fuel restrictions have affected 78 regions of Russia, as well as annexed Crimea. This is shown by Verstka’s calculations based on statements by the authorities, media reports, and complaints from local residents.

🟪Only five federal subjects had no mass reports of fuel shortages or restrictions on sales: Ingushetia, Chechnya, Kalmykia, Chukotka, and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. At the same time, as across Russia, people there also complained about rising prices. In Chechnya, according to Rosstat, during the week of June 9–15 gasoline rose by 8% at once — to 74.8 rubles per liter.

🟪In the remaining federal subjects, reports have been coming in since May about queues at gas stations, disruptions in gasoline supplies, the disappearance of certain fuel grades, or the introduction of various restrictions. In 29 of these regions, Verstka calculated, the authorities officially announced restrictions.

🟪In eight regions, restrictions affected specific gas station chains. For example, in Volgograd, Vologda, and Voronezh oblasts, drivers cannot refuel more than 30 liters at Lukoil stations. In Tyumen Oblast, a 40-liter limit is in effect at Gazprom Neft stations.

🟪At the same time, while the authorities in Bryansk Oblast acknowledged some problems linked to “a slight price increase by some operators,” in a number of other federal subjects the restrictions were explained exclusively as a way to “reduce panic buying at gas stations.”

🟪In several cases, restrictions were introduced not across an entire oblast but locally. In particular, in Tomsk Oblast, sales of gasoline and diesel were restricted in the “oil workers’ city” of Strezhevoy. The local administration explained that this was needed for “protection against fuel being taken to other regions.”
