Russian schools will double the share of “basic military training”

Starting in the new school year, the share of “basic military training” in the subject “Fundamentals of Security and Defense of the Motherland” will be increased to 50%.

Interfax reported this, citing Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov.

The subject “Fundamentals of Security and Defense of the Motherland” has been introduced for students in grades 6–11, and about 20% of study time within it is allocated to basic military training. From September 1, its share will be increased to 50%. The program includes, among other things, the study of unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as training camps,

Kravtsov said.

🔵The subject “Fundamentals of Security and Defense of the Motherland” was introduced into curricula in 2024. It is mandatory from the 8th grade, and in high school classes are held once a week.

In January, the government approved a list of equipment for classrooms: it was reported that schools plan to purchase drone assembly kits, flight simulators, and software for holding virtual “air races.”
